Description Aquifer Simulation Model for Windows (ASMWIN) is a complete two-dimensional groundwater flow and transport model. It includes a finite-difference flow model, a tool for the automatic calibration of a flow model, a particle tracking model, a random walk transport model, a finite-difference transport model and several useful modeling tools. The regular version can handel models with up to 150 + 150 cells and 1000 time intervals. It can create contour maps or solid fill plots of input data or simulation results. Solid Fill can utilize the full range of RGB colors to fill cells with different values. Contours can be added to these plots. Report-quality graphics may be saved to a wide variety of file types, including SURFER, DXF, HPGL and BMP (Windows Bitmap). The flow simulation is done by the preconditioned conjugate gradients (PCG) method (module ASMSIM1) with diagonal and Cholesky preconditioning methods. For steady state flow fields, automatic model calibration using the Marquardt-Levenberg algorithm is available in module ASMOPTI. The particle tracking model ASMPATH ultilizes several velocity interpolation methods and uses Euler-Integration to compute groundwater paths and travel times. Both forward and backward particle tracking schemes are allowed for steady-state and transient flow fields. ASMPATH calculates and shows pathlines or flowlines and travel time marks simultaneously. It provides various on-screen graphical options including head contours, drawdown contours and velocity vectors. The transport simulation is offered in two variants. The first is a FORTRAN program which uses a finite-difference scheme (Module ASMT2SIM). The second is a true Windows application which uses the random-walk method based on Fokker-Planck theory (Module ASMWALK). The modeling tools include a Result Extractor, a Field Interpolator, a Digitizer, a Field Generator, a Water Budget Calculator and a Graph Viewer.
