Description | FESEEP (Finite Element SEEpage Program) for Windows is used to assemble the data for, perform and plot the result of a two-dimensional finite element steady state seepage analysis. A set of plotting options is available. The data checks include mesh plots, "blocky" mesh plots, node and element numbering, material type checks and boundary condition checks. The post-processing options include contouring total heads and pore pressures and drawing the flow net if the stream function has been computed. It performs the finite element seepage analysis of the plane or axi-symmetric section through which steady state seepage is occurring. The elements are quadrilateral or triangular in shape and it is assumed that the total head is linear across the elements. Both confined and unconfined flow problems can be analysed. For unconfined flow an initial profile for the phreatic surface is defined by specifying the elements above this surface. The correct profile is then approximated using a simple iterative procedure in which the test for convergence is based upon successive estimates of the total flow from the system. In addition to total head, the program can solve for the stream function. With nodal values of total head and stream function it is then possible to draw a flow net. A demonstration version and reduced capability free student version for academic use are available on the WWW. |
