Description | FB-MultiPier is a 3-D nonlinear finite element analysis computer program that models soil-structure interactions of bridge piers under static and dynamic loading. The finite elements include nonlinear discrete elements that simulate material yielding and large deflection for redistribution of forces, eg due to concrete cracking and steel yielding in a condition permitted for vessel collision loading and other extreme loading events. Demand/capacity ratios are provided for piles, columns and pier caps computed from the biaxial interaction diagram of reinforced and prestressed concrete sections. Modeling of a bridge superstructure that is supported by multiple bearings is simplified to represent the elastic stiffness of the superstructure. The boundary condition of bearings can be modeled either using the default boundary condition settings or those defined by the user. For example, steel reinforced neoprene bearing pads can be defined using nonlinear load-displacement curves. The nonlinear springs which represent the interaction between piles (shafts) and soil layers are automatically generated from standard soil strength parameters input by the engineer. It is noted that various deep foundations can be modeled including but not limited to the effects of drilled shaft casings and different soil sets in the same foundation so as to simulate sloped soil layers. The pile-to-cap fixity condition can be defaulted as pinned or modeled to simulate any degree of fixity and strength. An automated procedure in the graphical user interface allows for AASHTO load generation. |
