Description | RAISON is a data analysis tool for displaying environmental data and analyses in the context of the local geography. It integrates database (data, text, images, maps), spreadsheet, statistics, graphics, and geo-referencing functions through a common graphical interface, and is particularly suitable for applications which involve point data of an attribute, gathered as discrete observations over a period of time such as pH readings of a lake, coliform measurements of well water, precipitation, survey data. Databases include locations of the data as latitude/longitude or UTM coordinates. Water quality data can include metadata. Data can be entered manually, or imported from either ASCII files or dBase III/IV files. Up to 254 fields and up to 1 billion records. Maps can be created using its map editor or imported from another format, or from scanned images. Utilities to import .DXF files. Supported map projections include Geo (flat), Mollweide, CEASN, Lambert Conformal, and Vertical Perspective. Point data are connected to maps through the use of site locations. Display data for a specific site, or retrieve data for selected sites into the spreadsheet for analysis. A 'database query' system allows the selection of specified retrieval criteria. The results of worksheet analysis can be displayed graphically in the form of charts, graphs, and maps. Data locations can be displayed as points on the map, allowing geographical groupings to be identified, or data values may be interpolated and contoured. Graphs (line, bar, time series, etc.) can be super-imposed over maps. A built-in graphics editor allows any of the resulting pictures to be edited. Available in Spanish as well as English. |
