Description | TARGET is a family of codes, capable of simulating ground-water flow and chemical-species transport in saturated and variably saturated porous media with complex boundary conditions and multiple material properties, sources and sinks. Consists of four independent computer codes for 2D vertically integrated, confined/unconfined, transient ground-water flow, and solute transport (TARGET-2DH); 2D vertically oriented (cross section), variably saturated, density coupled, transient ground-water flow, and solute transport (TARGET-2DU); multi-layer (variable layer thickness), confined/unconfined, transient ground-water flow, and solute transport (TARGET-2DM); and three-dimensional, saturated, density coupled, transient ground-water flow, and solute transport (TARGET-3DS). Uses an integrated finite difference approach to minimise numerical dispersion normal to or upstream of the flow direction. A moisture content averaging scheme is used in unsaturated zone calculations to ensure mass balance and numerical convergence. An Iterative Alternating Direction Implicit algorithm is used as the solver in conjunction with an under-over relaxation of the iterative scheme to damp or accelerate the convergence rate of the solution. |
