Description | SWANFLOW is a 3D finite-difference code for simulating the flow of water and an immiscible nonaqueous phase under saturated and unsaturated near-surface conditions. The code may be used in many situations requiring the analysis of immiscible flow, such as simulating the migration of organic chemicals; analysing the effects of remedial technologies at hazardous waste sites where immiscible fluids are encountered; and evaluating the migration and clean up of fuel spills and leaks. There are three primary limitations to the code: the air phase is considered to be at constant atmospheric pressure, thus flow of air is not modelled; mass transfer between phases is not considered, ie NAPL cannot dissolve in water or evaporate; and practical application of the code to field problems can be complicated by lack of site-specific capillary pressure and relative permeability data. |
