Description | FLAC 3D simulates the large strain behaviour of 3D structures built of soil, rock or other continua materials that undergo plastic flow when their yield limits are reached. Uses a mixed discretization scheme to model plastic flow and collapse. Explicit solution scheme gives a stable solution to unstable physical processes. Library of material properties (isotropic or transversely isotropic or orthotropic elastic, Mohr-Coulomb, Drucker Prager, Cam-Clay, ubiquitous joint and strain softening). Automatic grid generation. Statistical distribution or continuous gradient can be applied to any property. 3D graphics rendering. Plotting of variables, hidden surfaces, vector and surface contours. Four types of structural elements are provided: beam, cable, pile and shell. Beams are two-noded linear elements to represent structural members in which bending resistance and limited bending moments are important. Cables are represented as a spring-slider system. Piles are designed to represent the behaviour of friction piles. Shell elements can model planar support such as tunnel lining or sheet pile wall. FLAC 3D incorporates the facility to model confined groundwater flow and pore-pressure dissipation including full coupled consolidation analysis. The flow model can be run independently from the mechanical calculation. Built-in language to add user defined features (new constitutive models, variables, commands) and control data inputs, analysis, printing and plotting. Optional modules are available for the modelling of creep, dynamic and thermal problems. |
