Description | Surfit is an Open Source program which recalculates scattered data to a regular grid. It implements the CMOFS gridding method. The program has the following features: Basic input is an ASCII file containing X,Y,Z coordinates of irregularly spaced data-points. The surface can be defined not only by points, but also by: Trend surfaces, which can define surface behaviour in areas of low density data. Fault lines, which can define a discontinuity in the generated surface. Isolines and contours, which can define surface values on curves. It is possible to set for each data-object (point, curve, function) how the generated surface should pass through them (exactly or approximately). Smoothness of the resulting surface can be controlled by one parameter (similar to splines with a tension parameter). It can deal with large data sets. A grid can be displayed with wavelet analysis. The quality of the resulting surface is comparable to a surface created by kriging or minimum curvature methods. The C++ source code is available free of charge under the Free Software GPL license. |
