I have added a new Geotechnical category for Ground Improvement, which brings together programs on grouting, stone columns, wick drains and soil stabilisation.
If you receive an error message when you visit the Directory, check your bookmark. It should be http://www.ggsd.com/ If you have previously bookmarked an individual page in the Directory this will give you an error as the whole Directory is now generated "on-the-fly" from a database, and individual pages no longer exist.

My pick of the new programs
As always, this section has to be preceded by a disclaimer. The programs listed below are ones that caught my eye as being useful/interesting/different from the many submissions I receive. I have not tried any of these programs, and I am not making a recommendation. It is up to you to make your own choice. Some of these may not be "New" programs, but their entry in GGSD is new. That said, here is my pick. All the programs run under Windows or over the Internet.
GEOTECHNICAL PROGRAMS
Bearing capacity -- Multiple Load Footing Design
Uses FE methods to design combined, trapezoidal or strip footings with multiple loads. Considers bearing capacity, settlement and reinforcing design. Output data includes displacements, reactions, forces, reinforcing requirements, bar sizes and bar spacings.
Geotechnical software suites -- FOSM Calculator
Uses first-order, second moment expressions to perform probabilistic or reliability-based analyses of several geotechnical and hydrologic problems including stability analysis of forested infinite slopes, steady-state drawdown around a pumping well, Green-Ampt infiltration rate and wetting front travel time, and Manning's equation for open channel flow. It is written in JavaScript and runs within a web browser.
Ground improvement -- Injectsoft
Carries out presentation and analysis of grouting data recorded by a data logger.
Insitu testing -- PRESSIOMIG
Evaluates and presents Ménard pressuremeter tests according to the NF P94-110 European standard.
Laboratory testing (soil) -- KeyLAB
A laboratory information management system for geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering laboratories. An unlimited number of test types can be presented. There are facilities for sample tracking, test scheduling and data import from data loggers. It produces AGS compatible data files.
Numerical analysis (soil) -- intuitiveFEM/GEO
A finite element analysis program for 2D/3D continuum problems using linear and non-linear models such as Mohr-Coulomb. Groundwater flow can be modelled for confined/unconfined saturated/unsaturated situations. Results are displayed as contours, vectors, deformed shapes, nodal resultants and as animations.
Piles (lateral loading and groups) -- DynaPile
A program for the analysis of pile foundations under dynamic loading. It computes the dynamic stiffness of single piles or pile groups, either floating piles or end-bearing piles. The vertical dynamic stiffness, horizontal dynamic stiffness, and rocking dynamic stiffness are generated.
Piles (single) -- DRIVEN (FHWA)
Driven is a free program that determines the ultimate vertical static capacity of driven piles in cohesive and non-cohesive soils.
Reinforced slopes and walls -- MesaPro 2000
A low cost program that designs segmental retaining walls with Tensar geogrid reinforcement to AASHTO and NCMA design methodologies and includes quantity take off.
Retaining wall design -- RetWall (Napier)
RetWall is a free prototype knowledge-based system that runs over the Internet and aids in the selection of earth retaining structures using a set of rules compiled from various experts.
Settlement analysis -- FLEA5
The program calculates the stresses and displacements within a multi-layered soil deposit of finite thickness generated by multiple uniform surface loadings. The surface loading may be applied over a circular, strip or rectangular region.
Slope stability (soil) -- Stabl for Windows
The well known slope stability program Stabl from Purdue University is now available in a Windows version. It carries out two-dimensional limiting equilibrium methods for circular and general failures and includes the analysis of reinforced soil slopes with geosynthetics, nailing, and tiebacks.
GEOENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS
Groundwater flow (3D) -- Seep3D
Provides 3D modelling of saturated and unsaturated groundwater flow. The problem geometry is constructed using an interactive building block approach with material properties and boundary conditions defined on the geometry. The analysis is solved by finite element methods and the results visualised in 3D as surface contours and flow lines.
GENERAL PROGRAMS
Database systems (with log production) -- GEO-LOG 3
A database for the storage and presentation of geological and geotechnical data and the preparation of borehole logs.
Geophysics (surface) -- DrGeo
A multimedia software application for the acquisition and interpretation of single channel seismic data with on-screen interpretation of acquired data.
Mapping -- CDS
A set of programs for contouring, volume assessment, co-ordinate transformation and roadway design which link to AutoCAD.
Plotting (3D visualisation) -- DrDTM
An earth sciences mapping suite for manipulating and displaying XYZ data to create digital terrain models, carry out contouring and present the results as fly throughs.
Plotting (special) -- TriDraw
A shareware program to draw and print ternary diagrams.
