Description GROUP 2D is used to determine the distribution of loads to piles in a symmetrical group installed either vertically or on a batter. The piles can be connected to the pile cap as fixed, pinned, or elastically restrained. A rigid cap (non-deformable) is assumed. It solves by iteration for the non-linear response of each pile under combined loadings and assures compatibility of geometry and equilibrium of forces between the applied external loads and the reactions of each pile head. The load-deflection and the load-moment relationships for each pile in its individual coordinate system are computed. The behaviour under lateral loading is found by solving the non-linear differential equation employing p-y curves, and the behaviour under axial loading is found by solving the non-linear differential equation employing t-z curves. The p-y and t-z curves may be generated internally, employing recommendations in technical literature, or may be entered manually by the user. The pile-head forces and movements, found step-by-step, are introduced into equations that yield the behaviour of the two-dimensional group in a global coordinate system. For closely-spaced piles, the pile-soil-pile interaction can be taken into account by introducing reduction factors for the p-y curves used for each single pile. As an option, the user can ask the program to generate suggestions for p-multipliers to automatically reduce the soil resistance. The program computes the deflection, bending moment, shear, and soil resistance as a function of depth for each pile. A free demonstration version is available on the WWW.
