Description | Reliability Analysis of Soil Slopes Under Earthquake Loading. RASSUEL is used to assess the reliability of soil slopes under earthquake loading. A pseudo-static slope stability analysis is performed. Significant uncertainties in material and seismic parameters are recognised, and probabilistic tools are introduced for their description and amelioration. The safety of the slope is measured in terms of its probability of failure (or its complement, reliability) rather than the customary factor of safety. Numerical values of the probability are obtained through a Monte Carlo simulation of failure. Three types of earthquake source can be examined by the program: (a) point source, which models a known single earthquake source; (b) line source, which models a single known fault; and (c) area source, which simulates an ill-defined seismic threat. |
