Description | CYCON performs a one-dimensional consolidation analysis of a soil in which the soil properties may vary with depth and which can have values of compressibility and coefficient of consolidation which can be different for the normally-consolidated and over-consolidated states. Five different patterns of applied stress with time can be input, which in combination can represent almost any sequence of loading with time. The patterns are: constant stress with time; linearly varying stress with time; sinusoidal varying stress with time; "square-wave" cyclic loading; cosine variation of stress with time. The distribution of total stress within the profile can be specified as a fraction of the applied surface stress. As well as handling time-dependent loading, an initial distribution of excess pore pressure in the soil can be specified. The program solves the one-dimensional consolidation equation using an explicit finite difference formulation. The soil profile is divided into a number of layers each of which can have different properties. The thickness of the soil profile is assumed to remain constant with time. |
