Description EDISON was developed at the Swedish Geotechnical Institute to check, control the quality, edit and make initial interpretations of CPT sounding profiles acquired with all sounding data acquisition software that produces digital output in accordance with the Swedish Geotechnical Society (SGF) data format. The data files are presented graphically or alphanumerically on the screen. Erroneous values or commentary codes are edited in a copied file but all recorded parameters are displayed. The SGF list of method codes, comment codes and parameter codes is included in the software but can be customised by the user. Methods and corresponding codes are displayed on the sounding list display. Comments and corresponding codes are displayed with one cell per recorded level in the alphanumerical presentation. Parameter codes are abbreviations for sounding parameters, displayed in columns in the alphanumerical display. These are presented alphanumerically or graphically (curves or bars) and illustrated as "on/off" functions, with a parameter specific pattern, in the sounding bar. The user can define new patterns. Initial interpretation can be carried out by running and displaying computed parameters next to the recorded ones. Computations are addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with another sounding parameter or with a constant. Other available computations are trigonometric, logarithmic and simple algebraic. In addition a translator module is included in the software for translation of all screen displays and printouts to most languages with Roman alphabet. A demonstration version is available on the WWW.
